PTSD and Trauma
About 9% of adults in Canada meet the criteria for PTSD. It is more common than you might think. Distressing memories, nightmares, or flashbacks and difficulty experiencing positive emotions may be signs of PTSD. Living with chronic negative beliefs about yourself and others impacts our relationships and sense of self. If you have noticed feeling distress when reminded of the trauma and are avoiding thoughts, feelings, people and places associated with the trauma you may benefit from PTSD treatment.

Depression
Maybe you have been feeling down and hopeless with negative thoughts about yourself, such as “I am worthless”, “nobody likes me”, or “there is no point.” Perhaps you’ve noticed increased irritability and difficulty concentrating coupled with reduced interest in things you used to enjoy. Depression can cause changes in our eating and sleeping patterns, cause physical and mental fatigue and convince us that we should isolate from others.

Worry and Anxiety
Chronic worry and anxiety can leave us feeling depleted and irritated. If you have been struggling to handle any uncertainty, worrying about multiple areas of your life and feeling like you are unable to stop worrying, then you might benefit from anxiety treatment. Constant worry can prevent us from being present in our day to day life, impact our relationships with others, and dampen our self-esteem.

LGBTQ2SIA+ Identity
Identity is complex. It can be helpful to explore who we are, how we want to be perceived without judgement. If you would like a place to examine gender, sexuality, romantic orientations or relationship structures without judgement, Commence is here for these conversations.
Commence is queer-affirming, honours asexual and aromantic experiences, and is validating of non-traditional relationship structures such as non-monogamy and queer platonic relationships.
“There is no normal life that is free of pain. It’s the very wrestling with our problems that can be the impetus for our growth.”
— Fred Rogers
